Anat Oren is an Israeli-born artist based in Cape Town whose creative journey began at an early age. Her work reflects a lifelong passion for storytelling, drawing, painting, and artistic expression. Anat Oren was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, where her artistic talent was recognized from an early age. Known as the “school artist,” she quickly gained a reputation for her creativity and natural ability, laying the foundation for a lifelong career in the arts. After completing her military service, Anat became involved in Art for People, an educational arts programme that toured schools across Israel. As part of the programme, she performed live shows that combined painting, drawing, acting, and storytelling, using creativity as a way to engage and inspire young audiences. Art has always been part of Anat’s family life. Her father, Arik Amir, was a respected wrought-iron sculptor who owned a home and gallery in the renowned artists’ colony of Safad. From the age of 13, Anat exhibited her work alongside her father and later became a member of both the Art Association of Israel and the Safad Artists’ Colony. Her work formed part of the colony’s permanent exhibition. In 1988, Anat moved to South Africa and settled in Cape Town, where she continues her artistic journey. Drawing on a rich background in visual arts, performance, and storytelling, her work reflects a lifelong dedication to creativity and artistic expression.
