Linda Chandia is a Zambian-born artist. Known for her distinctive use of paper mosaic on a hessian canvas, she creates richly textured works that reflect both personal and collective experiences. She graduated from the Africa Literature Centre in Kitwe, Zambia, with a Diploma in Art and Design before beginning her professional journey as a graphic designer with the Zambia Daily Mail. It was during this time that her passion for fine art deepened, setting her on a path that would define her artistic career. Drawing inspiration from her surroundings, Chandia’s work explores social issues, nature, spirituality, and the complexities of human emotion. Through her art, she seeks to capture stories, experiences and reflections that resonate across cultures and communities. Her distinctive approach combines paper mosaic and hessian, creating richly textured surfaces that add depth and meaning to each piece. This unique use of materials has become a defining characteristic of her artistic practice. Over the years, Chandia has exhibited her work extensively both locally and internationally, with exhibitions in Zambia, Norway, Germany, Belgium, Johannesburg, Cape Town, and other cultural centres. Her contribution to the arts was recognised in 2004 when she received the prestigious Ngoma Award for Best Female Visual Artist in Zambia. Today, Linda Chandia lives and works in Johannesburg, South Africa, as a full-time artist. With multiple solo exhibitions to her name and a career spanning decades, she continues to create work that reflects her passion for storytelling, cultural expression, and the human experience.
