Christiaan Diedericks is a South African fine artist and printmaker who graduated Cum Laude in Fine Arts from the University of Potchefstroom and completed his Master’s degree (Cum Laude) at the University of Pretoria in 2000.
His work has been exhibited extensively throughout Southern Africa and internationally, including in the United States, Japan, Finland, Spain, Germany, Turkey, Poland, Belgium, France, Sweden, and England. He has completed numerous international residencies, including at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, the Frans Masereel Centrum in Belgium, and the Venice Print Studio in Italy. He was also awarded the prestigious Ampersand Foundation Fellowship, which led to a residency and exhibition period in New York.
In 2006, Diedericks received the Kanna Award for Fine Arts at the ABSA KKNK Festival for his exhibition Secrets and Lies: Her Majesty’s Ivory Tower. His work is held in major public, corporate, and museum collections both locally and internationally, including MoMA in New York, the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, the Johannesburg Art Gallery, and numerous leading South African collections.
Diedericks’ practice explores layered narratives that move between utopian and dystopian ideas. Through symbolism, printmaking, and fragmented storytelling, he creates works that examine history, identity, memory, and contemporary culture.
His work often presents multiple interpretations, encouraging viewers to navigate between clarity and ambiguity, reality and imagination. By re-examining established narratives and cultural assumptions, Diedericks creates thought-provoking works that invite reflection on the complexities of contemporary life.
